Dear Conrad,
Isometric exercises are so easily carried with you that there is little
need to do them at a gym. The best exercises to do at the gym are
isotonic and moving exercises of all kinds. Isometric ones pit
stationary joints and muscles against an immovable object, for example,
pushing one fist against the other palm; trying to stand up while being
held down, and similar workouts. The most useful time for
isometrics that I have found is when parked at a stoplight or while
spending hours on a long flight. The do indeed produce stronger
muscles. I hope this answer is satisfactory.
