Your buttocks have several muscles, the primary
one of which is the Gluteus Maximus. It is the muscle that is so
prominent in speed skaters. Reese Witherspoon suggests a "Jump Squat" in
April Fitness magazine, page 124. It sounds great, much like a
basketball jump shot.
Here is another exercise targeting the backside; stand in front of a
chair and put your hands on the seat. Raise one leg backward so that it
is parallel to the floor and your torso. Move up and down on your
relaxed down leg. Try 15-20 seconds first, aim at 30 seconds.
