Dear Dr. Dixon,

I love to dance.  By the time I'm done dancing (3 or 4 hours), my knees may hurt a little but no major pain.  Once I go outside into the cold my knees really start to hurt!  I am careful not to twist or bend them backwards when I dance.  Any ideas?

Rob

Dear Rob,

Four hours is a long time to dance, dependent somewhat on your age. If you are young, say under 30 and get painful joints in the cold, you might discuss cold agglutinins with your doctor.  In any event I would suggest a pair of knee warmers to put on after dancing and take a couple of Ibuprofen or Aleve at the half-time break.
