Dear Dr. Dixon,

I'm 5'7.  What is the average weight for my height? Also I want to lose
weight and I already eat from the health food store so I can't eat healthier
and I exercise.  What can I do to lose weight in my thighs and stomach?

Dear Megan,

A more important measurement is your body composition.  That is how much of you is fat and how much muscle. Two people of 5'7" may weigh the same, but one can be mostly fat and the other well muscled.  The percent fat for women is 16-26.  Their extra fat carries more estrogen.

Also you must know that you can get obese eating too much "healthy foods".  Health food is not necessarily low in calories even though it may be low in fat.

It is impossible to lose weight only in particular areas of the body, but if you decrease your overall body fat percentage certainly fat will disappear from your thighs and stomach.

I strongly suggest a month's membership in a health club so that you may learn things about yourself and perhaps get going on a home program.
